What To Expect
Starting Your Therapy Journey
-
Initial Evaluation
Your problem will be thoroughly assessed, whether it’s flexibility, limitations in mobility, strength issues, or pain.
-
Control the Problem
Treatment begins with controlling the problem through:
- A variety of hands-on techniques performed by a physical therapist to address the underlying reasons for your pain and/or limitation(s), which can include deep tissue mobilization (or massage), myofascial release, or dry needling.
- Joint limitations can be treated with joint mobilizations, neuromuscular mobilizations, and, in some cases, spinal manipulation.
-
Keep the Problem from Coming Back
Your therapist will utilize exercises to reinforce changes from the hands-on techniques. These may include stretching, joint flexibility, and strengthening exercises to decrease stress to the injured areas.
What To Remember
Post-Appointment Tips
It’s important for you to remember that post-physical or occupational therapy exercises are often part of your recovery. Your therapist may provide you with a home exercise program designed to self-regulate any flare-ups that may occur – which also helps to keep your problem from coming back.
Also remember our ultimate goal: Getting you back to your life!
