Where is My Pelvic Pain Coming From?

Pain in the pelvic floor can be caused by postpartum issues, urinary problems, pelvic organ prolapse or other conditions. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments and connective tissues that provide support to the pelvic organs, including the bladder, uterus (in females), and rectum. Pelvic floor physical therapy can be beneficial for both men and women and is commonly recommended for various conditions. We will design a personalized treatment plan designed to relieve your pain and address your specific condition.

Common Pelvic Floor Pain Conditions

  • Urinary Incontinence

Evaluation and Assessment

Our physical therapists specializing in pelvic floor therapy begin by conducting a thorough evaluation. This may involve assessing posture, muscle strength, joint mobility and the function of the pelvic floor muscles.

Pelvic Floor Muscle Training

Pelvic floor exercises, commonly known as Kegel exercises, are often prescribed to strengthen weak pelvic floor muscles. Conversely, relaxation exercises may be recommended for individuals with hypertonic (overactive) pelvic floor muscles.

Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a technique that uses electronic monitoring to provide visual or auditory feedback about pelvic floor muscle activity. This helps individuals learn how to control and coordinate their pelvic floor muscles.

Manual Therapy

We may use hands-on techniques to address muscle tension, trigger points and restrictions in the pelvic floor muscles. This can include internal and external manual therapy to release tightness and improve flexibility.

Bladder and Bowel Training

We can assist individuals with bladder and bowel control issues by implementing specific strategies, such as timed voiding and pelvic floor muscle training for improved continence.

Postpartum Rehabilitation

Pelvic floor physical therapy is often recommended for postpartum women to address issues such as perineal tearing, episiotomy healing and pelvic floor weakness that may arise after childbirth.

I’m so pleased that I’ve found a PT facility that treats TMJ. Haven’t finished my PT yet, but so far I’ve noticed a real improvement. My migraines are definitely reduced in frequency, duration, and intensity.

I was referred here by my dentist for TMJ and I’m so glad I was! My jaw had been locked for 3 weeks and I was having debilitating pain and headaches. After just a few sessions with Andrew and Jackie I had more mobility and less pain. I’ve been going for a little over a month and my jaw is pretty much back to normal.
Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. They really are doing everything possible to get me back to health quickly. Also when I started I felt broken and within weeks they identified the problem and fixed me. Wonderful!!!

I have been a patient at Elite Therapy Solutions in West Chester since October of 2023. After experiencing a concussion and being referred for occupational and physical therapy, I landed at Elite! Being able to receive both occupational and physical therapy in once place with the convenience of scheduling back to back appointments was one of the best things about my concussion recovery process. The ease of having both therapies in one location and the collaboration between therapists towards my goals played a big role in my progress. Working closely with Mary for OT and Andrew and Jackie for PT, I was able to not only find coping strategies for the difficulties that accompany having a concussion, but also improve upon those areas and get back to my normal functioning. The team at Elite in West Chester had an invested interested in my recovery and made such a difficult situation less daunting. I truly looked forward to spending my afternoons in the office and am quite sad that I graduated from both OT and PT (although I am doing SO MUCH BETTER). I worked with almost all of the therapists over the several months of treatment and was never disappointed. Each clinician showed genuine care and interest in my recovery process every step of the way. Even Amanda (front of office) was such a joy to interact with each visit! Anyone who is lucky enough to work with the team at Elite West Chester will not be disappointed 🙂
